Adwords Emails

Ok, It has been a while since I have posted anything. So here we go. I receive copious amounts of spam, up words of 200 a day sometimes. Recently I have noticed many things that say how to make money with Google Adwords or Adsense by posting ads. This is not what they would lead you to believe and is most likely a scam.

For those who do not know what these too programs are let me enlighten you, after words I will explain how it works.

Google Adwords is an advertising tool used by marketers to market websites by posting pay per click ads on Google. You select certain key words that all cost a different rate depending on how in demand it is. Then when you run a Google Search you will show up under the sponsored links on the right or immediately at the top. Essentially, this could be considered posting ads on Google. The issue is this COSTS you money. Granted Google allows you to set a budget and select less keywords, but if you not careful you can easily spend $100-$1000 a day. Money maker posting ads with Google? I think not.

Google Adsense can make you money. Here is how it works, you sign up for the program, agree to all the terms and conditions, and then insert a chunk of code you your web page to allow Google to display their sponsored links on your webpage. You can also link into blogger.com with your Adsense account. Thus if someone clicks a link say to the right there, I will make anywhere between 5 cents and a dollar, paid for by someone using Google Adwords. Now I know what you’re thinking, “That’s freaking awesome I can do that and get rich?” Well slow down a minute. Here is why it is hard to get rich on Adsense.

First of all you have a huge amount of information on the internet, and your one little blog or one little website where you show pics of your kids, likely doesn’t get much traffic. So signing up for Adsense is good and if your grandmother sees an ad next to little Jimmies photo she might click a link. Otherwise the rest of the world will likely never hit your page.

Second, even if you market your website some it takes a huge amount of traffic to get people to click links. Say you have 1000 hits a day, and out of that maybe 5 % will ever click a link. The next part of this is the herculean effort it takes to get 1000 hits a day. For example, I have a website that I created to allow authors to post their stories and works for free. Tossed Adsense on the side and marketed for 3 days with Adwords and on Facebook. Total amout of traffic was around maybe 15 hits a day. Total amount clicked, none. Money made = about -$60. The website should anyone be interested is here http://created-worlds.com/.

Now fortunately Google provides a plethora of ways to make money. Adsense for domains is one. If you own say 100 domain names, you can essentially set them up as a Google search box that displays ads etc for example http://www.unetseek.com/ . If someone searches there or clicks again ka ching. But stop and think before you race out and spend the 15 bucks each at godaddy for 100 domains. Remember what I said about the internet being big. Sure with 1000 domains you are likely to get some hits at some point, but chances are it will never be enough to make you filthy stinking rich.

Thirdly, it just plain takes a helluva lot of work to maintain all this.

So, can you make money with Google, yes. Is it by posting ads, no. It’s by hosting Google ads on a website, in a blog or using Adsense for domains.

Hope this helps some of you out there.

As a side note I have changed the comment settings so people can comment now. Would love to see what questions people have out there.
